Thoughts About Library 2.0 (Library 2.0 Week 6 Thing 15)

I came away from reading Away from Icebergs and Wikipedia - Library 2.0 with some thoughts. First of all we in the school library world need to move away from "collecting things". Instead we need to provide customizable access to whatever we can online and remotely. We have to move away from trying to "teach" all of our patrons to find what they need and towards empowering them to become their own information brokers by removing barriers to information access. We should also find ways "...to examine and improve services and be willing to replace them at any time with newer and better services" and always remember that "rigidity breeds failure". Perhaps this last is why the stereotypical image of the librarian that continually shushes patrons is still with us. (Library 2.0 Week 6 Thing 15)
